Certified Bob Kane Hand-Signed Batman & Me Limited Edition with Hand-Drawn Sketch

This listing highlights a remarkable artifact of American pop culture and comic book history: a deluxe hand-signed limited edition of Batman & Me: An Autobiography by Bob Kane (with Tom Andrae), complete with an original hand-drawn illustration by Batman creator Bob Kane. Published in 1989 by Eclipse Books, this 155-page hardcover volume offers a detailed first-person retrospective on the creation of the Dark Knight, featuring a preface by acclaimed comic artist Milton Caniff and rare artwork spanning from the character’s 1939 debut to the landmark 1989 feature film.

As the co-creator of Batman, Bob Kane helped lay the foundation for one of the most enduring media franchises in modern history. Designed specifically for high-end comic archivists and fine art collectors, this special limited issue includes an original hand-drawn sketch by Kane mounted directly to a heavy black paper flyleaf at the front of the volume. Accompanied by its original publisher slipcase adorned with a gold foil Bat-Signal motif, this signed piece represents a premier investment-grade holding in pop-culture history and comic memorabilia.

Autograph Specifications & Provenance

• ORIGINAL HAND-DRAWN SKETCH & SIGNATURE: Features a bold, original hand-drawn sketch of The Joker in black marker signed "Bob Kane" in his iconic boxed signature format, mounted to the black paper front endleaf.

• PUBLISHER LIMITATION ISSUE: Issued as a scarce limited hardcover edition published by Eclipse Books in Forestville, California.

• INCLUDES CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY: Accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity (COA) from Nate D. Sanders Auctions detailing the edition details and autograph verification.

• EXCELLENT COLLECTOR CONDITION: The volume and original slipcase remain in fine condition, with clean cloth, bright gilt stamping, and crisp interior pages.

• CONSIGNOR NOTES: When these rare limited edition signed editions were issued, the hugely popular series of Joker movies and subsequent resurgence in the Joker’s popularity hadn’t yet existed – so it was only natural that a sketch of Batman would be a more popular inclusion (the book is called “Batman & Me”, after all). That likely explains why it’s much harder to find copies with the Joker sketch. So when I stumbled across this in an auction years ago, I knew immediately it was rare.
