Original First-Printing Concert Poster: Paul McCartney & Wings (Wings Over America 1976 Cow Palace)

This entry showcases an authentic, primary-source piece of classic rock music history, Beatles solo lore, and 1970s concert poster ephemera: an original 1976 first-printing venue concert poster advertising Paul McCartney & Wings performing live at the Cow Palace in San Francisco.

Following the 1970 breakup of The Beatles, co-founder and primary songwriter Paul McCartney established Wings in 1971 alongside his wife Linda McCartney and Denny Laine. In 1976, the group embarked on the massive Wings Over America tour—McCartney's first major North American concert series since The Beatles' final venue performance at Candlestick Park a decade earlier. Spanning 31 sold-out arena shows to over 600,000 fans, the historic tour yielded the critically acclaimed, chart-topping triple live album Wings Over America (1976) and solidified Wings as one of the premier arena-rock attractions of the decade.

Promoted by legendary impresario Bill Graham ("BILL GRAHAM PRESENTS IN SAN FRANCISCO"), this iconic original poster advertises Wings' two-night engagement at San Francisco's historic Cow Palace on June 13–14, 1976.

Designed by renowned psychedelic art masters Randy Tuten and Stanley Mouse/Alton Kelley ("DESIGN R. TUTEN / S. MOUSE KELLEY"), the surreal artwork depicts a golden stylized jet liner gliding over floating spheres against a deep blue sky. The bottom margin bears the official printer credit line:

"© 1976 BILL GRAHAM / TEA LAUTREC LITHO-SAN FRANCISCO"
Preserved in good vintage condition on heavy poster paper stock, featuring rich original color printing, intact margins, minor corner creasing, and light edge wear consistent with authentic venue display, this rare 1976 concert poster serves as an essential centerpiece for Beatles archivists, 1970s rock memorabilia collectors, and San Francisco music history displays.

This is an iconic original poster for Paul McCartney and Wing’s two-night shows at the Cow Palace in San Francisco in June of 1976 (Paul’s first US tour since his 1966 final Beatles concert – which coincidentally also took place in San Francisco). While many counterfeits exist, I was fortunate to get an original many years ago – and have stored it ever since. Bill Graham always employed incredible poster artist for his concert productions – and here we have a classic example from the legendary Paul McCartney “Wings Over America” tour (his only tour of the US for almost two decades – as he would not return to US for another tour until 1989).
