Signed Limited First Edition Book: Hand-Signed by Arthur C. Clarke (The Songs of Distant Earth — Slipcased Edition)
This entry showcases an authentic, primary-source piece of science fiction history, modern space-age literature, and fine limited edition publishing ephemera: an official Del Rey special limited first edition copy of The Songs of Distant Earth, hand-signed on a dedicated preliminary limitation leaf by grand master science fiction author Arthur C. Clarke.
A vision controversy and hard science fiction titan, Sir Arthur C. Clarke (1917–2008) co-wrote the screenplay for the monumental film 2001: A Space Odyssey and authored seminal genre classics including Rendezvous with Rama and Childhood's End. Published in May 1986 by Del Rey / Ballantine Books (Random House, New York), The Songs of Distant Earth expands his celebrated 1958 short story into a full-length novel exploring humanity's survival and interstellar sub-light space travel.
Bound in full, deep blue woven cloth with a gilt-lettered spine title label, the volume is custom-housed in its publisher's matching dark blue cloth slipcase.
On the publisher's preliminary limitation page reading "Of the first edition of The Songs of Distant Earth five hundred copies have been specially bound. Each copy is signed by the author and numbered", Arthur C. Clarke has rendered a crisp signature in blue ink above a underlined flourish:
"Arthur C Clarke"
This copy is hand-numbered 452 out of a strictly limited edition run of only 500 copies.
Preserved in fine condition with sharp corners, firm cloth boards, intact slipcase, and clean, tight internal pages, this rare signed volume serves as an essential centerpiece for Arthur C. Clarke completists, science fiction archivists, and fine modern literature displays.
