Signed Limited First Edition Book: Hand-Signed & Numbered by Harold Sinclair (The Horse Soldiers)
This entry showcases an authentic, primary-source piece of American Civil War historical fiction lore, classical Hollywood adaptation history, and signed presentation ephemera: an official Deluxe Signed Limited First Edition copy of The Horse Soldiers, hand-signed on the preliminary limitation page by author Harold Sinclair.
An acclaimed novelist and Guggenheim Fellow, Harold Sinclair (1907–1966) earned widespread literary acclaim for his fictionalized account of Grierson's Raid—a daring 1863 Union cavalry raid deep behind Confederate lines during the Vicksburg Campaign. Published commercially in 1956, The Horse Soldiers became a major literary success and was adapted into John Ford's iconic 1959 Technicolor feature film starring John Wayne and William Holden.
Published in 1956 by Harper & Brothers (New York), this special presentation first edition is bound in original quarter tan cloth over blue patterned boards with gilt spine titling, deckled fore-edges, and map endpapers detailing the routes of Marlowe's Horse Soldiers through Mississippi and Louisiana.
On the dedicated preliminary limitation page stating "This is number 30 of seven hundred and fifty copies of the first edition of THE HORSE SOLDIERS specially autographed for presentation to friends of the author and the publisher", Harold Sinclair has signed his name in fountain pen ink:
"Harold Sinclair"
This copy is hand-numbered 30 out of the strict 750-copy presentation issue.
Preserved in good vintage condition with sound cloth boards, a tight binding, clean interior map endpapers, and its original spine sticker in protective acetate, this signed presentation volume serves as an essential centerpiece for Civil War fiction completists, film historians, and historical manuscript displays.
