About The Author

Serj Tankian, a singer, poet, songwriter, visual artist, activist, and composer, has always used music and art as a way to express his thoughts and emotions with passion and awareness that few can match. Born Armenian in Lebanon and rooted in Los Angeles, Serj was exposed to different cultures, ideas, and values from a young age. The lessons from this blending of influences have shaped his understanding of the interconnectedness of all things and have been transformed into the art he passionately creates. As the lead singer and songwriter for System Of A Down, Serj has released five studio albums, won a Grammy Award in 2006 for "B.Y.O.B," and sold over 40 million albums worldwide. His artworks deliver a distinctive auditory and visual experience. Each painting is paired with a musical composition he has created, which is as vital to his art as the paint on the canvas. This music, along with extra content, can be unlocked and explored through "Arloopa," a free mobile app for iOS and Android that uses optical recognition technology to identify his works and enable viewers to listen to each painting's matching musical score. Serj’s innovative approach began in 2013 with his Eye For Sound app, making him a pioneer in linking music and visual art through smartphone technology. His art has been displayed in numerous galleries and museums across California, New York, Massachusetts, and New Zealand.
