Official RIAA Platinum Record Award: The Beatles (Abbey Road)
This entry showcases an authentic, primary-source piece of music production, rock and roll, and recording industry history: an original RIAA-certified Platinum Sales Award presented to The Beatles to commemorate the extraordinary commercial success of their legendary 1969 album, Abbey Road.
Widely acclaimed as one of the greatest and most influential albums in popular music history, Abbey Road served as the final studio recording project undertaken by John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr. Produced by Sir George Martin and recorded at EMI Studios in London, the 1969 masterpiece features timeless rock standards—including Harrison's "Here Comes the Sun" and "Something", Lennon's "Come Together", and the celebrated Side Two medley.
This official RIAA "R-hologram" style award features a platinum-plated 12-inch vinyl LP record with an original green Apple Records center label displaying the album title. Mounted directly below the album is a miniature artwork graphic depicting the famous zebra crossing photo, paired with an engraved brass dedication plaque reading: "PRESENTED TO / THE BEATLES / TO COMMEMORATE THE SALE OF MORE THAN / 1,000,000 COPIES OF THE / CAPITOL RECORDS, INC. / ALBUM, CASSETTE AND C.D. / 'ABBEY ROAD'".
The lower section displays a silver compact disc on the left, an official 3D RIAA "R" hologram logo plaque in the center, and a metallic platinum cassette shell stamped "PLATINUM SALES AWARD" on the right. The entire presentation is double-matted in black with blue inner accent borders and housed in a glossy black wooden frame.
Offered completely unsigned as an official music industry presentation piece, this original RIAA award is presented in as-is condition, reflecting its original, unaltered vintage state. Exhibiting authentic signs of age, including natural surface patina, light handling wear to the outer frame, and characteristic paper backing age, this untouched piece of official recording history serves as an essential centerpiece for Beatles archivists, rock historians, and fine music memorabilia collectors.

Here we have a hologram-style RIAA Platinum Record Award issued in the late 1980s to commemorate its Platinum sales status in the U.S. (the highest status achievable in those days) of over 1 million copies sold. As was standard practice with vinyl album RIAA sales awards in those days, the gold and platinum albums used in the award do not actually match the vinyl albums they represent (thus you’ll see the track numbers on the album don’t match the album’s actual track numbers on the label.)
