This Edition of Lynyrd Skynyrd's NTSB Plane Crash Report Version 1 is autographed by Lynyrd Skynyrd.

This signed item is a remarkable piece of Southern rock history: the NTSB Plane Crash Report relating to the tragic 1977 accident involving Lynyrd Skynyrd, autographed by drummer and crash survivor Artimus Pyle. On October 20, 1977, Lynyrd Skynyrd’s chartered Convair CV-240 ran out of fuel and crashed in a wooded area near Gillsburg, Mississippi, while en route to Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The accident claimed the lives of lead singer Ronnie Van Zant, guitarist Steve Gaines, backup vocalist Cassie Gaines, assistant road manager Dean Kilpatrick, and the two pilots. Other band members, crew, and associates sustained serious injuries. The official NTSB (National Transportation Safety Board) report documented the causes and consequences of the crash, attributing it primarily to fuel exhaustion and inadequate flight planning. Artimus Pyle (born 1948), the band’s drummer, was one of the survivors and played a heroic role in helping others seek assistance immediately after the crash. Pyle, who joined the band in 1974, contributed to their classic albums Nuthin’ Fancy, Gimme Back My Bullets, and the legendary Street Survivors (released just three days before the crash). His powerful drumming and stage presence were integral to the band’s live energy and studio sound. After the tragedy, Pyle carried on Lynyrd Skynyrd’s legacy through his own music and by sharing his firsthand experiences of that fateful day. Owning this signed NTSB Plane Crash Report by Artimus Pyle is far more than a collectible—it is a deeply significant artifact that connects directly to one of rock’s most tragic and transformative moments. For fans of Lynyrd Skynyrd, collectors of Southern rock memorabilia, and those interested in the history of rock’s most enduring legends, this piece serves as a solemn reminder of both devastating loss and incredible survival.
