Formed in Salford, Greater Manchester, in 1976, Joy Division—fronted by the late Ian Curtis alongside Hook, Morris, and Sumner—became one of the most influential post-punk bands of all time. Following Curtis's tragic death in May 1980, the remaining trio regrouped to form New Order, pioneering the integration of post-punk, electronic dance music, and synth-pop throughout the 1980s and beyond.
Recorded with producer Martin Hannett, "Love Will Tear Us Apart" remains Joy Division's most famous song and a universally acclaimed anthem of the post-punk era, regularly ranked among the greatest singles of all time by Rolling Stone and NME.
The front cover features Barry Plummer's striking black-and-white performance photograph of late frontman Ian Curtis framed within a white border. Positioned across the cover jacket, Peter Hook has signed in black marker along the lower left ("Peter Hook"), Bernard Sumner across the central photograph over Curtis's shirt ("Bernard Sumner"), and Stephen Morris along the lower right ("Stephen Morris").
