Autographed First Edition Book: Dual-Signed by Scott Carpenter & Kris Stoever (For Spacious Skies)
This entry showcases an authentic, primary-source piece of NASA space exploration history, Project Mercury astronaut lore, and signed memoir ephemera: an original first printing hardcover edition of For Spacious Skies: The Uncommon Journey of a Mercury Astronaut, hand-signed on the title page by Mercury Seven astronaut Scott Carpenter and his daughter and co-author Kris Stoever.
An iconic pioneer of American spaceflight, Commander M. Scott Carpenter (1925–2013) was selected in 1959 as one of NASA's original Mercury Seven astronauts. On May 24, 1962, Carpenter became the second American to orbit the Earth aboard the Aurora 7 spacecraft, completing three orbits before a memorable splashdown. Later serving as an aquanaut in the U.S. Navy's SEALAB II project, Carpenter became the first human to explore both space and the ocean floor. Co-authored with his daughter Kris Stoever, For Spacious Skies offers a deeply personal and candid memoir detailing his military career, spaceflight, deep-sea exploration, and family life.
Published in 2002 by Harcourt, Inc., this hardcover edition features its original dust jacket adorned with a classic NASA portrait of Carpenter in his Mercury spacesuit against a launchpad backdrop. The rear jacket preserves advance endorsements by fellow Mercury astronaut John Glenn and author Tom Wolfe.
Across the internal title page, Scott Carpenter and Kris Stoever have both rendered bold signatures in black ink:
"Scott Carpenter" / "Kristen C. Stoever"
Preserved in fine condition with sharp jacket corners, a tight spine, and clean internal pages, this dual-signed volume serves as an essential centerpiece for space completists, NASA archivists, and aviation displays.
