Dual-Autographed Matted Exhibition Display: Hand-Signed by Bud Abbott & Lou Costello (Who’s on First?)
This entry showcases an authentic, primary-source piece of Golden Age Hollywood comedy history, vaudeville lore, and pop culture ephemera: a dual-signed album page matted alongside a classic promotional photograph of the legendary comedy duo Bud Abbott and Lou Costello.
A pink sheet - most likely a removed autograph page - beautifully signed by both Bud Abbott and Lou Costello. Nicely matted with a classic photo of the two from their iconic and legendary "Who's on First?" comedy routine. Abbott and Costello’s comedy work in radio, film, and television made them the most popular comedy team of the 1940s and 1950s, and the highest-paid entertainers in the world during the Second World War. Their patter routine "Who’s on First?” about a team of baseball players with rather confusing names is considered one of the most famous comedy routines of all time. And here is a wonderful photo of that routine paired with one of the nicest autograph sets of the two comedy legends.

Partners across stage, radio, film, and television, Bud Abbott (1897–1974) and Lou Costello (1906–1950) stand among the most influential and successful comedy teams in American history. Rising from vaudeville and burlesque to national stardom on the radio, Abbott and Costello dominated the 1940s box office with Universal Pictures smash hits including Buck Privates (1941), Hold That Ghost (1941), and Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein (1948).
Housed within a custom double-matted charcoal display, the top window showcases a classic black-and-white promotional still depicting Abbott and Costello performing their famous baseball-themed comedy sketch, with Abbott dressed in a "St. Louis Wolves" baseball uniform and Costello holding a bat in his signature suit and bowler hat.
Framed in the lower mat window is an authentic vintage pink album page hand-signed by both legends in dark ink:
-
Bud Abbott: Executed "Bud Abbott" in clear, dark fountain pen ink across the top.
-
Lou Costello: Executed "Lou Costello" in matching dark ink directly below.
Preserved in fine vintage condition, the matted display features crisp photographic reproduction, clean acid-free matting, and two bold, fully legible signatures with no overlapping strokes or major ink fading. This matted presentation serves as an essential centerpiece for classic Hollywood archivists, sports comedy collectors, and vintage entertainment displays.

HISTORIC INK SIGNATURES: Both signatures remain crisp, distinct, and fully legible across the vintage paper album page.
- CONSIGNER NOTES: Even in the 1960s and 70s, Abbott and Costello’s moves and tv series were still popular on televisions around the country. Abbott’s often-underrated straight man performances were the perfect match to Costello’s charming, almost childlike persona. Apparently, however, their off-screen relationship was far more complex – which may explain that while they were teamed up for so many years, finding their authentic signatures together on a single piece wasn’t as easy as most would think. In addition, the number of authentic autograph sets is further limited due to Costello's death from a heart attack at just 52 years old. I was very pleased to have finally found such a nice set of autographs together – beautifully signed and matted with a photo of one of the most iconic comedy routines ever, their classic “Who’s On First?” skit.
