Dual-Signed Custom Drumhead: Hand-Signed by Buddy Miles & Billy Cox (Band of Gypsys)
This entry showcases an authentic, primary-source piece of classic rock royalty, electric blues history, and Jimi Hendrix lore: a custom 14" Remo Weatherking drumhead, dual-signed by Buddy Miles and Billy Cox, the legendary rhythm section of Jimi Hendrix's iconic trio, Band of Gypsys.
Formed in late 1969 by guitar virtuoso Jimi Hendrix alongside bassist Billy Cox and drummer/vocalist Buddy Miles, Band of Gypsys made rock history during their historic four-show residency over New Year's Eve 1969 and New Year's Day 1970 at the Fillmore East in New York City. The resulting 1970 live album, Band of Gypsys, introduced a revolutionary blend of funk, hard rock, and soul that profoundly shaped the future of funk rock and heavy metal. Buddy Miles (1947–2008) delivered powerful drumming and soulful vocals on classic tracks like "Changes," while Billy Cox provided the tight, driving basslines that anchored Hendrix's groundbreaking guitar improvisations.
The custom 14-inch Remo Weatherking Ebony Pinstripe drumhead features a central orange-and-yellow "BAND OF GYPSYS" decal across the high-gloss black skin.
Both musicians have rendered prominent autographs across the playing surface in vibrant metallic and paint markers:
-
Buddy Miles: Signed "Buddy Miles" in silver metallic marker above the central band logo.
-
Billy Cox: Signed "Billy Cox" in bright blue paint marker across the lower portion of the drumhead.

This short-lived band first’s performances (over New Years 1970) at the Fillmore East became their live album, Band of Gypsys. Billy Cox also appears on the Hendrix album, The Cry of Love – and has worked with artists including Sam Cooke, Slim Harpo, Lou Rawls, and Etta James, and was inducted into the Musicians Hall of Fame. Meanwhile, Buddy Miles (who passed away in 2008) was a founder of the Electric Flag, and led the Buddy Miles Express. He also collaborated with Carlos Santana, Stevie Wonder, and David Bowie. Here we have a superb opportunity to own both of their signatures – gorgeously signed on the customer black drumhead.
