Vintage Promotional Poster: Original 1963 Parlophone Records Display Poster

This entry showcases a primary-source cornerstone of Beatlemania and British pop culture history: an original 1963 vintage promotional shop poster for The Beatles, issued by Parlophone Records (E.M.I. Records Ltd.) in Great Britain. Rendered in a striking orange and black colorway, this original record store promotional display stands as one of the most recognizable and coveted early promotional pieces from the Fab Four's breakout era.

Formed in Liverpool, England, in 1960, The Beatles—John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr—revolutionized popular music and youth culture worldwide. Signed to EMI’s Parlophone imprint in 1962 by producer George Martin, the group ignited global "Beatlemania" following the release of their debut UK singles "Love Me Do" and "Please Please Me", quickly becoming the most successful and influential band in history.

Distributed to record shops across the United Kingdom in late 1963 to promote the band's burgeoning catalog and chart-topping releases, this official promotional poster features Dezo Hoffmann's iconic photo session depicting the young Fab Four wearing their famous collarless Pierre Cardin-style suits. The band members are captured in warm, smiling poses—Paul McCartney holding a cigarette on the left, Ringo Starr centered, George Harrison upper right, and John Lennon leaning in lower right.

The poster features a bold bright orange background offset by black-and-white half-tone portrait imagery. Prominently printed in the lower left foreground is the crisp white and orange Parlophone block graphic featuring the famous £ (pound) trademark symbol alongside "THE BEATLES / PARLOPHONE RECORDS" typography, completed by official E.M.I. Records Ltd. fine print along the lower margin ("Printed in Great Britain"). Preserved in fine vintage condition with crisp borders, bright color, and clean surfaces, this authentic 1963 promotional display serves as an essential centerpiece for Beatles archivists, music memorabilia collectors, and 1960s pop culture historians.

  • EXCELLENT VINTAGE CONDITION: Preserved in fine condition with vibrant orange color saturation, clean edges, and sharp imagery throughout.

Historical Significance & Provenance

  • HISTORIC BEATLEMANIA ARTIFACT: Authentic early-era Parlophone promotional item issued during the peak of British Beatlemania.
  • OFFICIAL PARLOPHONE BRANDING: Complete with official Parlophone £ trademark logo and original EMI Records London publication credit.
  • Consignor Notes:
    • Here we have one of the earliest and most sought-after Beatles promotional posters – issued by EMI Parlophone in 1963 for use in record stores. While this famous poster has been counterfeited, this is an original, vintage poster, printed in 1963 to promote the Beatles on Parlophone Records, and featuring the famous Dezo Hoffman group photo with Paul McCartney's cigarette still intact, not airbrushed out. The fine print on the bottom says "763" indicating its July of 1963 printing origin.
    • This poster comes from a limited stash of legitimate original posters found decades ago – which were carefully stored in the home of a former EMI Records employee – and sold by Tracks UK, one of the most reputable dealers in rare Beatles artifacts in the world. As one can imagine, these were quickly snapped up by fortunate collectors at the time. These highly-sought-after posters from the original EMI executive stash don’t come up for auction often.  Measures 14 7/8" x 12" and grades to Near Mint condition.
    • There isn’t much to say about this amazing item that isn’t apparent in the photos of this gorgeous, bright poster. For an original 1963 promotional record store poster, it’s in amazing  condition – as it was carefully stored by an EMI executive for years in a stash he kept at home – and then sold off by Tracks UK, the world-renowned dealer in rare Beatles items. This was never hung up nor rolled up – so its condition is remarkable.  And of course, it features that classic Dezo Hoffman photo of the Beatles.  There’s cheap counterfeits of this poster all over the web – but this is a true, fully authentic (and very rare) 1963 original.
